Warnett Hallen LLP Lawyer Chairs 2020 “A Night of Miracles Gala” for B.C. Children’s Hospital Foundation
The annual “A Night of Miracles Gala” to support pediatric diabetes care in British Columbia raised $480,000 this year, thanks to the help of a team of community members, including Warnett Hallen LLP Partner Manjot Hallen.
The event, now in its twelfth year, is organized by the B.C. Children’s Hospital Foundation. Hallen served as chair of the “A Night of Miracles Gala Cabinet,” which was held virtually this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The purpose of the gala is to secure funding for virtual educational resources tailored to families dealing with the different challenges that come with a Type 1 diabetes diagnosis. By developing online resources, the foundation can reach families throughout the province.
“It’s an honor to assist in an endeavor that can have such far-reaching benefits,” says Hallen, a Vancouver personal injury lawyer. “Children with diabetes face dangerous health consequences as a result of the disease. But what many people don’t realize is that these children are often unable to participate in events like sports or school trips because teachers aren’t equipped to deal with emergencies that may arise.”
The gala fundraiser aims to expand the village of people who can increase kids’ access to those opportunities. That includes pooling the efforts of doctors, nurses, researchers, social workers, dietitians, parents, and community members, according to an announcement from the hospital foundation.
A bigger village can also help parents and family members, who often suffer from exhaustion, isolation, and burnout as they work to care for their children.
So far, the organization has raised more than $1.2 million towards its $3.1 million goal.
